2026 – EDUCATION

Carol C. Juneau is an esteemed educator and politician, and an enrolled member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation of North Dakota. Over a distinguished legislative career spanning 1998 to 2011, she served in both chambers of the Montana Legislature. Juneau was first elected to the Montana House of Representatives in 1998, serving until 2007, before being elected to the Montana Senate, where she served until 2011. Throughout her tenure, she was instrumental in sponsoring Montana’s landmark Indian Education for All legislation.

Juneau was born in White Shield, North Dakota. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Montana College and a Master of Education from the University of Montana. Dedicating much of her early career to tribal higher education, she served as the director of the Blackfeet Community Free School from 1974 to 1976 and as president of Blackfeet Community College from 1976 to 1983.

In addition to her legislative work, Juneau has extended her commitment to public service as an education consultant, a member of the Montana Indian Democrats Council, and a lifelong advocate for effective community leadership.
